Parametric Lego Modeling
In this project we designed a set or family of parts. The easiest way to make a family of parts is with equations. When using equations you can change one value and other values in the part will change with it. This saves a lot of time during modeling
process.
Legos® are a good example of a family of parts. A brick has certain design properties and they do not change. However, parts of the Legos® must change when the size increases.
Blue Lego Brick 6
Parameter d0=.625
Parameter d1=(d0 * 6 in) / 2 in
d1=1.875
Parameter d1=(d0 * 6 in) / 2 in
d1=1.875
Blue Lego Brick 10
Once the model is created we can change the size of the part by changing the equation. For example, to make a 10 peg Lego brick we change the equation for d1 to d1=(d0 * 10 in) / 2 in
Parameter d0=.625
Parameter d1=(d0 * 10 in) / 2 in
d1=3.125
Parameter d0=.625
Parameter d1=(d0 * 10 in) / 2 in
d1=3.125
Green Lego Half Brick 6
Parameter d0=.3125
Parameter d1=d0 * 6
d1=1.875
Parameter d1=d0 * 6
d1=1.875
Gray Lego Plate 6
Parameter d0=.3125
Parameter d1=(d0 * 6 in) / 2 in
d1=1.875
Parameter d1=(d0 * 6 in) / 2 in
d1=1.875
Red Lego Half Plate 6
Parameter d0=.3125
Parameter d1=d0 * 6
d1=1.875
